From the business of making images to the business of selling images, artists engage in a wide range of professional scenarios.

In this one-hour presentation, Mary Virginia Swanson will explain and demystify best practices to foster understanding, clear communication and strong relationships throughout your creative life. Participants will take away new skills, direction, and focus that will enhance their photographic practice.

Swanson’s diverse career has afforded her broad knowledge of the many and varied professional situations required for a successful professional life in the arts.  Her involvement in fine art, editorial, corporate and design markets, along with starting and heading an innovative licensing agency, makes her ideal in presenting this insightful lecture.

Guests with One DayVIP, and Festival Passes will be given seating priority at this event. Maximum number of guests is 120, based on first come, first served.

How is a museum exhibition curated?

During his one-hour presentation, Chantel Paul, Assistant Curator at the Museum of Photographic Arts, offers insight into the decisions a curator makes when choosing work for exhibition. Ms. Paul will share details of the journey from meeting artists and seeing their work to the right opportunity to present it in an exhibition.

Prior to her position with the Museum of Photographic Arts, Paul obtained a degree in photography and was a gallery director working with esteemed photographers like Jim Marshall, Autumn DeWilde, and Herman Leonard. Her experience as both a gallery director and practitioner has greatly informed her curatorial practice and her ability to understand the visual language of photography.
