Mom and All of the Jewelries She Bought Herself with Her Own Money, 2015

Leonard Suryajaya

Saturday, Oct. 22, 9:30-10:30am

We’re proud to welcome Leonard Suryajaya as our 2016 Second Sight Lecturer. Nominated from our 2015 Eye to Eye Portfolio Review photographers, Leonard will present his recent work examining his layered family heritage and the complex history of being raised Christian by Buddhist parents in Indonesia. Suryajaya’s Chinese American heritage marks the foundation for his use of photography and video to examine the family relationships central to his work. The artist’s photographs reflect a  playful, fantastic examination of this cultural background and personal histories.

A resident of Chicago, Leonard Suryajaya holds an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited his work widely in the United States and abroad. We’re proud to welcome him as part of our 2016 Present Tense Lecture Series.
