Guest Room, Tamarack Lodge, Greenfield Park, New York, 2013
Marisa Scheinfeld’s work is motivated by her interest in ruins, sites and the histories embedded in them. Her projects have taken her from the United States to Israel, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, India and most recently her own backyard of upstate New York.
Marisa Scheinfeld will present selections from her new book, The Borscht Belt, published by Cornell University Press. This body of work depicts abandoned sites where resorts, hotels and bungalow colonies once boomed in the Catskill Mountains. Captured over the period of nearly a decade, her photographs remind us of a pivotal era in American Jewish history and the possibilities for photography to reimagine history.
Festival Passes available inside the Lafayette Hotel beginning Friday, Oct. 21.
