Fear of Snake No. 7, 2014
Susan Rankaitis’ works are often defined as experimental, combining traditional photographic processes with painting, drawing and other mediums. Over a 40-year career, Rankaitis has collaborated on projects with neuroscientists, choreographers, dancers, biologists, poets, and writers, using photographic materials throughout.
Rankaitis will present a lecture entitled, “The Boundaries Become Fluid” itself a segment of a quote from Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. Influenced by Moholy-Nagy’s work and philosophical stance, Rankaitis creates work at the borderline between painting and photography. Throughout her numerous collaborations fluidity has remained the underlying constant in Rankaitis’ work—fluidity between mediums, fields, and subjects. Join us for a compelling lecture examining the creative process from an artist who has consistently broken boundaries.
